WESTOVER, MD, January 22, 2024 – Four Somerset County Public Schools’ (SCPS) teachers recently learned of their winning video submissions to “Cash for Class;” an annual contest sponsored by Hertrich Family of Automobile Dealers that encourages educators across Delmarva to submit video requests for funding to support classroom projects, trips, extracurricular programs, equipment and more. Hertrich awarded $6,000 to SCPS in the 2023 contest. 

Interactive Media Instructor & SkillsUSA Chapter Advisor at Somerset County Technical High School (SCTHS), Mr. Jeremy Holland, won the largest sum of cash; $3,000 split evenly among three initiatives to replace the school van, purchase supplies for promotional printmaking & laser engraving, and supplies to produce sublimated promotional products for sale in the school store. 

Photography and Journalism Instructor at Crisfield Academy & High School, Ms. Vickie Nelson, was awarded $1,000 in the contest for field trip transportation that will offer Photography students access to a greater variety of landscapes, scenery and images to capture during the course.

Special Education Inclusion Teacher, Ms. Michelle Harrison of Washington Academy & High School was awarded $1,000 to purchase two Cricut machines for integration into Physical Science curriculum, and other classroom initiatives. 

Ms. Crystal Handy, Math Teacher at Washington Academy & High School was awarded $1,000 to purchase incentives for students preparing for math assessments.
