The Medium/Heavy Truck course at Somerset County Technical High School is a 2 year long course, designed to give high school students an in depth look into the industry and all of the potential career paths it has to offer. The first year students will dive into Steering & Suspension and Brake systems in their first semester, and Electronics and HVAC in their second semester. Second year students will have a school year long course of Diesel Engine Technology and Preventative Maintenance Inspection Technology. We have engine, tractor and trailer, transmission, and various other donations from local farmers, and major corporations such as Sysco Eastern Maryland, and Perdue Farms. The students will get to put their hands on real world applications, as well as train on 2 Cummins ISX 15 engines, with a fully functional after-treatment system and a breakout box to bug the system for diagnostic procedures. Overall the county is now offering students an incredible opportunity to learn and excel in a career that is steadily uprising.
